I guess the French aren't so bad after all.

GOP PASSES ON GAY BROADWAY: With thousands of Republican delegates to entertain during the upcoming national convention, the GOP is treating its contingent to some of New York's finest theatrical offerings, but delegates shouldn't expect to see many gay-friendly shows. The family-values party passed on some of Broadway's most popular musicals, including Tony winners "Avenue Q," "Hairspray," and "The Producers," which all feature gay themes. Frank Rich writes in his New York Times theater column,

"The Republicans were so desperate to escape Roger DeBris, the cross-dressing buffoon concocted by Mel Brooks, that they have gone and picked two shows ("Beauty and the Beast" and "Phantom of the Opera") set in France!"

That's hilarious!! But I notice "The Boy From Oz" isn't on the list. I guess that's SO GAY they couldn't even mention it.

But it's nice that they're going to see Phantom and Beauty. I'm sure there are no gay actors or ushers or ticket takers involved with those plays. Just two big evil French villains in some damn fine capes! Hmmm....
